Why does the cross-section of the hand towel appear in different colors?

elinnee

Product Description: Our towels have undergone deep embossing treatment. This process creates precise raised and recessed textures on the surface of the paper, significantly increasing the thickness, softness and absorbent area of the towels.

Visual effect description: The raised and recessed parts of these rules will form subtle shadows and highlights when illuminated by light. During the cutting process, the cross-section of the raised area (which shows more of the base paper color) and the recessed area (which appears slightly darker due to the angle) will produce a slight visual contrast. This is a normal optical effect.
Rotary cutting / Circular blade cutting

Professional description: Our cutting machine employs high-speed rotary cutting technology. Unlike straight blade cutting, the rotary blades have curved edges.

Visual effect description: When the rotating blade passes through the thick embossed paper, it rotates and presses through the paper. This action forms a very small and smooth curved cross-section instead of an absolute vertical plane. The slight curvature at the edge of the cut reflects light from different angles, interacting with the reflected light from the paper surface, enhancing the light and shadow effect produced by the embossing, thereby making the color appear to change.

Summary in one sentence: “The ‘color differences’ that people perceive are actually a natural and common visual illusion, caused by the interaction between the light on the embossed texture and the curved micro-topography formed by the rotational cutting process. This is not an indication of uneven paper density or inconsistent moisture content.”
